Newly-promoted Dstv Premiership club Swallows FC are in talks with Mamelodi Sundowns over a move for Liberian winger Antony Laffor.

Newly-promoted Dstv Premiership club Swallows FC are in talks with Mamelodi Sundowns over a move for Liberian winger Antony Laffor.

Swallows head coach Brandon Truter is keen to bolster his forward options, and reports in South Africa reveal he has pinpointed the 35-year-old as a potential recruit.

Laffor made a handful of league appearances for the Brazilians last season having played second fiddle to Gaston Sirino, Tiyani Mabunda and Mauricio Affonso.

A South African publication KickOff indicates that the Dube Birds are currently in advance discussions with the forward together with a defender and the deal could be sealed in the following days.

“Sundowns and Swallows are engaged in talks over a few players at Chloorkop. Wayne Arendse and Anthony Laffor could join Swallows this coming season,” claims the source as quoted by the publication.

If the move materializes, Laffor will be expected to use his experience in guiding the younger players in the current squad, especially those playing in attack positions.

He will find at Swallows veteran footballers such as Vuyo Mere and club captain Lebogang Mokoena who both played for Mamelodi Sundowns in the past.

Kaizer Chiefs and alongside an unnamed Qatar clubs have been in the past linked with the Liberian international services.

Laffor has made less than ten appearances for the Brazilians since early March last year when he started in the match against Lobi Stars of Nigeria in the group stage of the African Champions League.

Sundowns extended the player’s contract in January 2019 by two more seasons and it’s expected to lapse in mid-2021.
