Chippa United have completed the signing of Liberian striker Antony Laffor, the South African Premier Soccer League club has announced.
The 35-year-old attacker was on the books of Mamelodi Sundowns for the last eight years and won seven league titles with the club.
Laffor has joined Chilli Boys as a free agent after receiving his clearance from Sundowns at the start of December last year.
In a statement posted on their Twitter page, Chippa United confirmed the capture of Laffor together with former Amajita captain Ayabulela Konqobe.
“Chippa United Football Club is excited to announce two additions to the squad with the acquisition of two internationals in Anthony Laffor and Ayabulela Konqobe,” the statement reads.
“The duo have signed until the end of the season with an option of renewing their stay in Port Elizabeth for a further two seasons.
“They are both available for selection with the team preparing to play TS Galaxy in a DStv Premiership fixture at Mbombela Stadium tomorrow afternoon.
“Laffor, the 35-year-old Liberian international star, carries a decorated career in South Africa and on the continent with seven league titles as well as a African Champions League winner’s medal.
“Konqobe (23) is the former South African Under-20 national captain who is in his second spell with the Chilli Boys. He plays in both defence and midfield, as he returns after a stint playing in Finland.”
Head coach Dan Malesela added;”I am thrilled to have the experience of both Anthony and Ayabulela to bolster our squad.
“We welcome them both to the Chilli Boys family as we look at reinforcing in key positions, and also towards our ambitions for this season.”
