Argentina And France Face Off In 2022 World Cup Final

Argentina and France will battle for the right to be crowned 2022 FIFA World Cup champions on Sunday afternoon.

The match will be held at Lusail Stadium in Doha, kickoff at 15h00GMT.

Argentina will be seeking for their third world title having last won the tournament 40 years ago when they won 3-2 against Germany.

The White and Sky Blues started their journey to the final in a wrong footing when they fell 2-1 to Saudi Arabia but they redeemed themselves by winning their next two group matches.

Lionel Scaloni’s men then defeated Mexico 2-0 then Poland by same score line before trouncing Australia 2-1 in the Round of 16.

At the quarters, Argentina labored to defeat Netherlands 4-3 on penalties following a 2-2 stalemate and in semis they walloped Croatia 3-0 to book a place in the final against France.

Lionel Messi has been the player behind much of Argentina’s success in this year’s tournament and he will be expected to lead his team to victory.

The pint-sized football magician is playing in his fifth and final World Cup and his countrymen will be expecting him to meastermind victory as Diego Maradona did in 1986.

Messi has collected seven Ballon d’Or awards for the best player in the world, but his last trip to the World Cup final ended in the disappointment of defeat to Germany in 2014.

France, meanwhile, have a star in the name of Kylian Mbappe who has contributed greatly for the Les Blue in their fight to defend their world title.

The European football giants are three time winners of the competition and they will be hoping for a fourth star on their jersey.

Didier Deschamps’s men beat Australia and Denmark in their two group games but lost to Tunisia 1-0 in their third game, having fielded a weaker side.

They walloped Poland 3-1 in the round of 16 before eliminating tournament favorites England by beating them 2-1 in the quarterfinals.

France’s important player Mbappe is just 23-year-old he is steps away Mbappe to become the youngest player to win two World Cups since Pele achieved the feat at the age of 21.

Both teams have won the World Cup twice in their history – in 1978 and 1986 for the former, and 1998 and 2018 for the latter.
