AS Kigali To Represent Rwanda In CAF Confederation Cup

AS Kigali have been crowned Peace Cup champions two months after the Rwandese Football Federation FERWAFA called an end to the tournament due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

AS Kigali have been crowned Peace Cup champions two months after the Rwandese Football Federation FERWAFA called an end to the tournament due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The decision was reached on Friday by FERWAFA executive committee in accordance with chapter five of the Confederation Cup rules and regulations.

On the failure to complete the competition, Confederation Cup regulations stipulate, in chapter five that:

“If for any reason, the national cup of a federation did not take place, the federation in question has the right to submit the participation request of the same club(s) engaged having played the national cup and the national league from the previous season.”

Basing on the regulations, AS Kigali who are reigning champions, automatically earn a ticket to represent Rwanda in the Confederation Cup.

AS Kigali won the 2019 edition, having defeated SC Kiyovu 2-1 in extra time of the final held at Stade de Kigali on Thursday, July 4, 2019.

The ASK joins league champions APR FC as Rwanda’s representatives in the next edition of CAF Interclubs Competitions. APR FC will take part in the CAF Champions League in the 2020/2021 edition.

The City of Kigali sponsored side was eliminated in this season edition of CAF Confederation Cup by Uganda’s Proline FC 3-2 on aggregate over two legs.
