Ghana’s Captain Asamoah Gyan will return to the national team fold as the Black stars prepare to take-on Sierra Leone in the ongoing 2019 Nations Qualifiers after being omitted in the three previous rounds.
After the surprise loss to Kenya, Ghana’s head coach Kwesi Appiah has decided to invite the veteran striker to help with the attack but has surprisingly still left out the Ayew brothers.
The controversial decision to omit the brothers and invite Asamoah Gyan who has just played 35 minutes of competitive football this season has caused a massive uproar online with many fans calling on the gaffer to explain why.
The pair have been playing in a more competitive league than most invited players which makes their omission more confusing. Andre Ayew has settled well in Turkey scoring twice in seven appearances for Fernabahce while Jordan has been featuring constantly for Crystal Palace in England.
Appiah has not called the pair in over a year since they both turned down an invite for a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Congo. In their defense, it was a crunch time in the Premier League season and Ghana was already out of contention for a World Cup spot.
The trio should bury the hatchet and try help Ghana qualify other than letting their egos come before their country.
Appiah also omitted Crystal Palace defender Jeffrey Schlupp, Tianjin Teda striker Frank Achepong and Hoffeinheim center back Kasim Adams.
He has however invited Colombus Crew center back Jonathan Mensah who hadn’t turned up for the national team in over three years and his brother Bernard Mensah who plays for Turkey side Kayserispor.
Ghana are still top of Group F on goal difference and will be looking to bounce back from Kenya’s defeat when they take on Sierra Leone in a double encounter on October 11th and 15th.
Their group opponents Kenya will also have back to back games against neighbors Ethiopia on the same dates.
