Asamoah Gyan Turns Down an ‘Unpatriotic’ Offer

A prospective transfer to the English Championship side Reading fell apart after Asamoah Gyan refused to miss the African Cup of Nations.

The 30-year-old Ghanaian has expressed his reasons patriotically: “Am proud of my Country, No one can stop me from serving my country… Ghana made me who I am today.”

Meanwhile, the “Black Stars” striker anticipated a return to the English Premier League but was cut short due to questions about his fitness. The Ghanaian had earlier expressed to Sky Sports a keen interest in returning to English football and was in England to assess some options, suitable for his career.

Gyan who has played for Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG for 12-months now was facing uncertainties following a long spell of injuries and the signing of Hulk. The striker’s undermined position was set to lead him to sign for Championship club Reading on a season-long loan.
