ASFAR Crowned Queens Of Africa In CAF Women’s Champions League Final

ASFAR of Morocco claimed their maiden CAF Women’s Champions League title after securing a 4-0 victory over holders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in front of a home crowd at Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah.

The Moroccan outfit, who entered the match as the less fancied of the two sides,were lifted to victory by a hat-trick from Ibtissam Jraidi and a goal from Fatima Tagnaout.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, who were seeking to defend their crown, were chasing for their second continental title.

But they were unable to find a response to ASFAR opener on the quarter-hour mark, and struggled to find a goal of their own.

Regina Mogolola missed a chance to give Sundowns an equalizer on the 21st minute, the winger managed to get on the end of Chuene Morofi’s delivery but sliced her effort high and wide.

At half an hour mark, Jerry Tsabalalala ladies were reduced to ten when Rhoda Mulaudzi was given marching order after a poor challenge on Zineb Redouani.

The South Africans were further reduced to nine players after captain Zanele Nhlapho picked a second bookable offence. She had been yellow-carded in 22nd minute for foul that resulted in the penalty for Rabat.

Ibtissam Jraidi nscored shortly after Nhapho left the field of play as the goal effectively took the game away from Sundowns.

Boutumelo Rabale nearly grabbed a goal back in the 74th minute as Leona Dawiti’s header from close range drew a fine save Tagnaouti, following a cross from Mbane,

The star of the night was Jraïdi added two more goals in the 87th and 90th minute to complete the rout in sweet revenge for the Atlas Lionesses Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title loss to South Africa.
