ASKO de Kara Dump CS Sfaxien Out Of CAF Confederation Cup

Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien have been eliminated from 2022/2023 CAF Confederation  Cup by ASKO de KARA of Togo.

Sfaxien were dumped out of the competition at the play-offs on 2-1 aggregate after they could only salvage a 0-0 draw in the second leg at the Taieb Mhiri Stadium in Sfaxien on Wednesday.

The barren draw was so largely to the heroics of visiting goalkeeper Mahaidou Sama who was outstanding between the posts.

Sama made a string of spectacular saves in to deny a home team battling to find the net as they had fallen 2-1 in the first leg played in Lome a week ago.

Ismail Diakhite posed the biggest threat to the Togolese, who had never gone past the first round of the second-tier African club competition.

Diakhite squandered the best chance of the first half at Taieb Mhiri Stadium, blazing over from close range with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Sama saved superbly from Mu Fares Neji soon after half-time and the introduction of Nabi Camara  for off-form Diakhite livened the Togolese.

Camara made his presence felt with a long-range shot that forced another excellent stop from  Sama, a regular in the Togo national squad.

Aymen Dahmen came to Sfaxien’s rescue two minutes later, with a great reaction save to keep to deny Ouro-Nimini.

Sfaxien pushed for the winner in the closing stages of the game but could bypass an in-form Sama who denied the Tunisians two clear cut chances.
