Former Bafana Bafana international Ayanda Dlamini has resigned as head coach of South Africa Premier Soccer League side Amazulu with immediate effect.

The Usuthu confirmed the new development in a statement made available to Ducor Sports on Monday, where the Umulazi-based outfit accepted the gaffer’s decision.

“AmaZulu Football Club would like to officially announce that coach Ayanda Dlamini has voluntary stepped down from his head coaching duties with immediate effect and will be re-assigned to the role of coach within the club’s development ranks,” the club said in a statement.

“Assistant coach Allan Freese will step in as interim head coach of Usuthu while the club’s management evaluate a way forward. Coach Ayanda Dlamini stepped into the head coaching role back in February 2020 and did a sterling job in ensuring the survival of AmaZulu FC in the topflight of South African football.”

The 36-year-old steered Usuthu from relegation as caretaker coach last season before earning the faith under the previous ownership with a three-year contract.

Dlamini was in-charge of six games this season where Usuthu registered only one win and losing two matches.

He leaves the team at 11th in the 16-team division in a season where the club ownership has set a top-four finish as the mandate agreed upon.

However, the new club owner Sandile Zungu has assured that Dlamini will be re-assigned to the development structures at the club.

“We will continue to trust him with the advancement of our development structures because he is fully committed to Vision 2032. His role is very integral in ensuring that AmaZulu have a solid base of young players coming through the ranks.”

Amazulu portal describes the former attacker, who spent the majority of his playing career at AmaZulu, as a coach who understands what the club is about and how much it’s success means to the Usuthu faithful.
