Bamboutos FC de Mbouda have emerged as the winners of the 2022 Cameroon Super Cup after beating Cameroon Ligue 1 champions Coton Sport de Garoua 1-0 at the Bafoussam Nkuekong Stadium.
Eugene Ejenguele opened the scoring in the first half, shifting the ball onto his left foot before rifling a thunderous effort into the top corner with Jean Daniel Nyeck well beaten.
Coton Sport emerged Cameroon Ligue 1 champions when Bamboutos ‘lifted’ the FA Cup and both teams went into this match with a mindset of proving their quality.
The Cottoners were certainly looking sharp but Nyeck was keeping his side in the game as he denied on a number of occasions.
Coton Sport though were frustrated in spite of their dominance as they were unable to find an equalizer.
Alex Ouke made an acrobatic clearance with Marius Kada waiting to pounce after Jean Chamdjou had sent in a delightful cross.
Mani Kaupit then missed a great opportunity to extend Bamboutos into the lead four minutes later having beaten the offside trap to latch onto a Ali Lamin through ball.
Fondoh Malone, who was a one-on-one situation with Bamboutos goalkeeper Patrick Kybien, shot wide much to the dismay of the few fans gathered at the stadium.
Bamboutos saw most of the ball after the restart with Raphael Yapemde pulling the strings from midfield for Bosso Ndoumbe’s side.
The popular Cameroonian trainer decided to introduce well-travelled hitman Benjamin Ngassa and Franck Kofana.
Coton Sport had a chance to grab an equalizer , but Bamboutos keeper Kybien produced a fine save to deny Reich Triop.
However, Coton Sport fate had already been sealed by that stage and Bamboutos held on to win their first silverware this season.
