Kenyan Premier League side Bandari FC has appointed Antony Kimani as their new assistant coach to replace Ibrahim Shikanda.
The Dockers settled on the former Harambee Stars international to help the new coach Andre Casa Mbungo, who had been appointed to head the team in January.
The 31-year-old re-unites with Mbungo who served as his assistant at AFC Leopards between March to December 2019 and was subsequently elevated to the rank of interim head coach.
Kimani left Leopards in a huff after a 0-0 draw against arch-rivals Gor Mahia in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League played a fortnight ago.
The youthful coach was first seen among Bandari’s hierarchy during Tuesday afternoon’s 5-0 league win over Vihiga United.
“We are proud to announce Anthony “Modo” Kimani as our assistant Coach for a period of one year with an option to extend,’ read a statement on Bandari’s Facebook page.
“Kimani joins us from AFC Leopards where he brings immense experience in the BKPL as well as a great promise for the future.
“We continue to focus on growth and investing in the youth which has been Kimani’s philosophy and that’s why he fits perfectly for the role.
“The club would like to welcome him home and together may we achieve greatness.”
Kimani commands respect across the local football scene from his days as a central defender. He is remembered for captaining Mathare United to the 2008 Kenyan Premier League title.
He also wore the armband for Leopards when Ingwe won the (domestic cup) GOTV Shield in 2013 and also captained Harambee Stars to a second-place finish at the 2009 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Kampala.
