John Baraza has stepped down as the head coach of Kenyan Premier League side Sofapaka, Ducor Sports reports.
The decision comes days after the Batoto Ba Mungu suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of AFC Leopards on Saturday evening.
Mike Mururi will take over coaching duties, starting with Saturday’s 2020/21 Football Kenya Federation Premier League encounter against Kariobangi Sharks.
“We have asked coach Baraza to step aside as we plan to take him for further studies either in Norway or Germany. For now Mururi is in charge of the team as we prepare for our next match against Kariobangi Sharks and we will announce the new head coach anytime from tomorrow,” said Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa.
Physical Trainer Diallo Kwasi and Assistant Coach Martin Ndagano have also been dropped from the main team to the club’s youth team.
Baraza was appointed Sofapaka coach in December last year after serving as stand-in coach thrice for the 2009 league champions.
He was elevated to the rank of interim coach in November last year following the sacking of his Portuguese boss Divaldo Alves before being confirmed as new head coach after signing a three-year contract.
Bandari coach Ken Odhiambo is clear favorite to replace Baraza at Sofapaka as they quest to end eleven-year drought by capturing this season’s FKF Premier League title.
