2019 Africa Cup of Nations’ revelation Youcef Belaili appears willing to stay put at Saudi multiple-time league winners Al Ahli after turning down an offer from a European club.
The 27-year-old is facing a nightmarish five months at Ahli Jeddah whom he joined from African Cup back-to-back winners Esperance for a reported €1.5m euros.
His arrival, it was believed, would help the Jeddah outfit reclaim dominance in the domestic league.
Against anticipations, he became peripheral in Swiss gaffer Christian Gross’ season plans, consequently causing a plummet in his form.
When he got thrown in the mix, it was usually as a substitute before getting recently shooed into the lineup in the last five matches.
Nimes, a French Ligue1 side, had counted on cashing on the situation to prise away the unsettled Algerian international by lodging in an impulsive offer which it was thought Youcef would willingly grab with both hands.
Preliminary talks were staged in respect to this possible transfer but the process smashed the buffers after gaffer Gross began starting the attacking midfielder, persuading Belaili his future remains at Ahli.
This development led the Desert Foxes’ man into turning down the European club’s proposal.
