Anderlecht have made it a priority to launch a campaign for the return of former striker Duemerci Mbokani, Ducor Sports can report.
The 33-year-old forward spent two seasons at the Brussels outfit scoring thirty-three goals, winning the league title and the golden boot in 2012 and 2013 before departing to Ukraine’s Dynamo Kiev then to Norwich and Hull City.
Six years on, those performances at the Constant Vandent Stock grounds are still remembered with The Purples’ chairman Marc Couke keen to seal the DR Congo international’s services.
Mbokani has managed just nine goals for Antwerp this term in twenty-five cameos picking up seven yellow cards.
This has not dissuaded thirty-four-time Belgian First Division A champions. Preliminary meetings have already taken place between Anderlecht’s deal-brokers and the goal-getter’s agent Christophe Henrotay in recent days, reports from the Belgian press claim.
Valued in excess of little over £3.5m, Antwerp should have no qualms cashing in on The Leopards’ veteran considering he was acquired on a free transfer.
And the fact that his deal expires this June, both parties are expected to have little issues over putting the deal to bed.
However, should Royal Antwerp wish to profit out of a player they paid zero euros for, then encouraging bids could add a twist to the whole equation and force Anderlecht to buy him outright ahead of next season.
