DR Congo forward Benick Afobe, doubled for AFC Bournemouth who came from behind to secure an easy 3-1 win over Yeovil Town on Wednesday.
Bournemouth was caught off guard after Yeovil defender Keston Davies opened the scoring in the 15th minute. The on-loan Swansea defender overpowered his marker to thump home a header but the Cherries were quick to hit back.
Bournemouth’s Mousset leveled the score at the half hour mark with a clever chipped finish, before Afobe turned it around five minutes later.
Yeovil goalkeeper Artur Krysiak spilled Nathan Ake’s headed effort but Afobe was on hand to pounce it back into the top of the net.
The former Arsenal and Wolves forward got his second of the night in the 55th minute, thanks to a low cross from Pugh to give Bournemouth their fourth win of the season.
Asked by Bournemouth Echo about his attacking threat, Ed Howe admitted he believes in the 24-year-old’s scoring abilities.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“Benick I think, has always had that ability and it’s good to see lads score again. It’s important for him to follow up on his early season work. There are positives for those guys and I think it’s great to see your strikers score,”[/perfectpullquote]
said Howe.
With the arrival of England striker Jamie Defoe in addition to Joshua King’s consistent form last season, Afobe will have to fight for a starting spot next season but his performance has surely put him in contention for a spot.
Bournemouth will play Napoli in its last pre-season friendly on 6th before kicking off the English Premier League campaign against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
