The 2019/2020 Benin Premier League remains suspended in the wake of coronavirus, the football association confirmed on Monday.

The country’s football has been put on hold since March 19 following a ban on all public gatherings by the government.

The Benin Football Federation (FBF) Secretary-General Claude Paqui affirmed the status of football in the West African nation after a meeting with clubs last week.

Paqui says it will take a definite decision by June 15, 2020, after holding talks with the government and health experts.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had requested a status update from all its member associations on the situation and the future of football in the countries, particularly on the elite division leagues, by Tuesday last week.

The FBF will consider all the factors at the time and take all the necessary decisions to ensure the safety of all participants and the smooth completion of the season.

But with the country’s coronavirus case numbers steadily increasing, the future of the league is unclear.
