Benin international Cebio Soukou has joined Germany second division side Arminia Bielefeld, Ducor Sports can exclusively reveal.
This comes after the 26-year-old snubbed a move to top flight club Augsburg who were on the verge of signing him.
Soukou sealed the deal with the club on Saturday but the terms were not disclosed though several sources have confirmed that he agreed to a two-year contract.
The midfielder moves on a free transfer after opting not to extend his contract with Three Liga club Hansa Rostock.
Arminia Bielefeld sports director Samir Arabi said as translated from Dutch, “I am pleased that we have been able to add Soukou to our group now he has become available.”
“He demonstrated at Rostock, and previously in Aue, his qualities on the pitch. We are delighted that he has chosen to join Bielefeld.”
Bielefeld head coach Uwe Neuhaus added, “Soukou brings a good dynamic and mentality and is very flexible in the offensive. With his power and speed, he appears both as a goal-scoring player and as a play maker.”
On his side, Soukou expressed his satisfaction revealing that it was a good move for him as it will help in the growth of his football career.
“I am honestly happy about my move to Bielefeld. The decision to join the club was not hard for me. I was raised in Germany, so I know this club very well. I’m looking forward to the new challenge, “says Soukou.
Soukou, who scored ten times in 33 games for Rostock, made his debut for Benin in a match against Togo on 24 March as a starter.
