Simba SC winger Bernard Morrison has been banned for three matches and fined 3,000,000 Tanzania shillings (USD 1,300) by Tanzania Football Federation for stripping off to his undies in celebration against Yanga.
The Ghanaian forward whipped off his shorts in celebration after his team’s 1-0 win over his former club Yanga in Tanzanian FA Cup final match played at Lake Tanganyika Stadium last Sunday.
Simba and Yanga officials had confronted the player but he ignored them before stewards forced him to wear the shorts that he had placed on his head.
Since the match had ended, Morrison escaped a yellow card for his cheeky antics, which normally is a way of avoiding a ban on players taking their shirts off.
“It is just a pair of lucky boxer shorts that I used in the first game as well and have used before the tournament,” said Morison.
“I didn’t know I was breaking any rules but I am aware of that now.”
The former Orlando Pirates attacker has five days in which to appeal.
Morrison is not new to controversies as he was once arrested in Dar Es Salaam allegedly for having been found in possession of marijuana in his car.
The 28-year-old joined Simba in August 2020 a two year deal from Yanga in a controversial move that saw his former club suing the player for breach of contract.
He was cleared by Tanzania FA after being forced to refund the Jangwani Street-based side $25,000 for him to feature for the 22-time-league champions.
