Burkina Faso international Bertrand Traore has expressed his delight at scoring on his debut for his new club Aston Villa in Thursday’s 3-0 win against Bristol City.
The 25-year-old joined Villa last week after a three-year association with French Ligue One side Olympique Lyon.
Traore scored sumptuous first-time volley moments after Anwar El Ghazi converted from close range with Ollie Watkins adding a third.
In an interview with Villa official website, Traore could not hide his joy having scored in a win that helped Villa into Round Four of Carabao Cup.
“I’m very happy to score on my debut. We won, we are through to the next round, so I’m very happy,” said Traore.
“I just decided that when I got the ball I wanted to put it in [with] one touch, I was a bit lucky but you have to try. If you don’t try, it is never a goal.”
Villa assistant coach John Terry, who played alongside the Burkinabe at Chelsea, was quick to praise his new frontman after the game for his energy on both sides of the park.
“It was important for him [Traore] to get off to a great start,” said Terry.
“He hasn’t played in a while. So to get the goal and top it off was good.
“He was someone at Chelsea who was very hungry. He went away from the Premier League but he’s always had that desire to come back and prove himself.
“He’s got that opportunity now at Aston Villa and personally and professionally we’re delighted to have him.”
Traore completed his move from Lyon to Aston Villa on Saturday, 19th September penning a four-year contract with the Lions.
