Zimbabwe international Khama Billiat expressed his excitement following Kaizer Chiefs’s 1-0 victory over Angolan giants side Primeiro de Agosto on Tuesday.
Chiefs advanced to the group stages of African Champions League for the first time with a historic win that was achieved in Luanda.
The Amakhosi had been held by the Angolan side to a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Johannesburg last month, a result that saw Gavin Hunt’s side having their backs against the wall.
Leonardo Castro found the all-important goal just before the break after being teed up by the Warriors marksman.
“It is a great feeling, credit goes to the technical team and the entire squad for their preparation. The whole effort that the chairman [Kaizer Motaung] has put in for the everyone is really important for us to test ourselves with the rest of the Champions League giants,” the striker said in an interview.
“It gives us confidence going back to our domestic competition. We really want to go all the way, to make a difference, and push ourselves to the limit and to see how far we can compete in Africa.
“I must give credit to the guys, we worked so hard, we stuck to the game-plan. It wasn’t easy, and it is going to be very tough [in the group stages], but we only learn and grow as a team and make sure we gel together and fight for one another.”
Kaizer Chiefs now join, among others, local rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, reigning champions Al Ahly, Zamalek and Teungueth.
The group stage draw is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 7 January, after the last round of fixtures are completed on Wednesday evening.
