Amavubi midfielder Djihad Bizimana is confident that Rwanda will qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations despite Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Cameroon in their second Group F match played at Kigali Stadium.
Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu struck for the visitors with 20 minutes remaining despite the home side having more possession and more attempts at goal.
The result left Rwanda at the bottom of their group with zero points in the wake of their loss in their opening group match away against Mozambique.
But Bizimana, who turns for Belgian First Division side Waasland-Beveren, believes they will pocket maximum points in the remaining matches, which will revitalize their dreams of qualifying for the tournament that will be hosted in Yaounde.
“We had a target of taking nine points at home and one point away from home but now things have changed we will be looking to win away and home games so that we can get at least get 10 points which can qualify us,” said Djihad Bizimana.
Rwanda last participated in the African Nations Cup in 2004 where they got eliminated in the group stages.
To make to Yaounde, Amavubi will be required to finish among the top two teams in Group F of the qualifiers.
Cameroon are currently at the summit of Group F with four points, Mozambique has three points, Cape Verde has one point while Rwanda has none.
