Black Leopards Terminates Thuso Phala Contract

Former SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs winger Thuso Phala has become a free agent after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with Black Leopards.

Former SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs winger Thuso Phala has become a free agent after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with Black Leopards.

Phala, who joined Leopards from the Swanky Boys early last year, had made 13 appearances without scoring in all competitions.

“We commenced contract re-negotiations with Leopards regarding a few players during this lockdown period and it was then made clear that the club would not be extending Thuso’s stay,” said Basia Michels of QT Sports.

“In light of that, we then came to an agreement that Thuso would not be returning to Leopards should football resume. It was an amicable termination and Thuso agreed to it. There were no fights, no bad blood.”

Phala began his career at Kaizer Chiefs in 2009, moving from Absa Premiership rivals Platinum Stars three years later before sealing a switch to SuperSport United in 2013.

During his time with the Swanky Boys, Phala helped the side twin several trophies including back-to-back Nedbank Cup triumphs in 2016 and 2017.

The 33-year-old has made 20 Bafana Bafana appearances and featured for the national team at two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
