Blantyre Derby Ends Goalless

Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers played to a goalless draw in their Blantyre Derby encounter at the Kamuzu Stadium, Malawi on Saturday afternoon.

The 0-0 scoreline in this TNM Super League encounter means that Bullets remain fifth on the table with 23 points from 13 games while Wanderers also remain stagnant at the second position on the table with 27 points.

Bullets appeared to be searching for an early goal as Chiukepo Msowoya twice breached Nomads’ defence with splitting passes, but Hassan Kajoke was slow to react as Sanudi came out to collect on two similar occasions.

In the 19th minute, Mike Mkwate hit the side-netting but it was not good enough to beat Sanudi at the Wanderers goal.

It took 16 more minutes before Bullets created another chance, which was wasted in the end. Chimango Kayira broke free on the left in the 35th minute to deliver a good cross, which flew past the face of Sanudi’s goal, with Cholopi and Harry ball-watching.

On the stroke of halftime Wanderers almost caught a flat-footed Bullets defence as Babatunde Adepeju beat Charles Petro on the left to deliver a great cross but Vincent Nyangulu failed to capitalize when he tried to slide it in.

Nine minutes into the second half, Chimwenwe Idana benefitted from a second ball that fell into his path just outside the box; the Bullets striker hit a first-time low shot that just went wide of Sanudi’s goal.

The match sparked into life at the hour mark when a Wanderers’ counter-attack ensued, led by Alfred Manyonzo. With Bullets hanging to dear life, the ball fell onto Nyangulu who had his curling left-footed shot saved by a diving Rabson Chiyenda, who parried the ball not out of danger. Isaac Kaliati then hit a rocket of a shot that went just high of goal from the rebound.

Bullets nearly scored in the 87th minute when Msowoya got on the end of Sambani’s in-swinging corner kick but his header could only find the outer roof of the net. A minute later Kajoke then forced a good save from Chiyenda when he struck left footed shot from outside the net.
