Egyptian giants Al Ahly will miss the services of veteran midfielder Walid Soliman in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup set to take place between February 1st and February 11th in Qatar.
The midfielder picked an injury during Al Ahly’s surprise goalless draw against Egyptian Premier League debutants National Bank of Egypt over the weekend.
According to the club’s director of football Sayed Abdelhafiz, Soliman will be out of action for four weeks as a medical scan revealed that the player sustained a hamstring tear.
The attacker will perform a special recovery program under the supervision of Al Ahly’s medical staff in order to return back and participate in the team’s training sessions.
The 36-year-old joined Ahly from Enppi in the summer of 2011, helping the Red Devils win six league titles and three champions league trophies.
Soliman won the Confederation Cup in 2014 and the Egypt Cup in 2017.
The veteran winger has made 272 appearances with Ahly, scoring 63 goals and providing 49 assists.
Al Ahly will face Qatari champions Al Duhail in the second round of the Club World Cup where a win will book for them a date against European champions Bayern Munich, who won five trophies last year.
The Red Devils had qualified for the Club World Cup after winning the CAF Champions League for the ninth time in the club’s history.
The Pitso Mosimane’s coached side earned a historic 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Zamalek in the first-ever one-legged African Champions League.
