Gaborone United chairman Boitumelo Nsunge has denied allegations that he and the team coach Nikola Kavazovic were involved in a physical altercation after Botswana Premier League Top 8 quarterfinal match against Jwaneng Galaxy.
The Money Machines went down 1-0 to the Galaxy Stars through Gift Moyo’s second-half strike in the first leg match played on Sunday.
Multiple sources within the team suggest the two officials might have been involved in a physical altercation after the final whistle, with coach Nikola reported to have tendered resignation letter.
“I hear people say I was involved in a fight with our coach. That is not true. There was a group of our fans who were not happy after the game. And they surrounded coach Nikola,” Nsunge told Botswana Football.
He added: “I came….trying to protect Nikola and I even lost balance on the ground and fell. I was embarrassed by the security personnel because they thought I was out to beat up my coach.
“I tried to explain to them am the chairman of the club. I tried to show them my card. They embarrassed me. Am the chairman …how can I fight with my coach?”
Ducor Sports sought to know why Gaborone United has not issued a statement in response to the allegation but the club General Manager, Thapelo Mothusi was unreachable.
Nikola was appointed as the Money Machines coach on a short-term contract that commenced in September.
This was after parting ways with South Africa’s side Free State Stars after suffering relegation on the final day of the last Premier Soccer League campaign.
