Botswana Takes Bronze In 4x400m Relays

Botswana claimed bronze on Saturday at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics after finishing third in the 4x400m relays.

The team of Isaac Makwala, Baboloki Thebe, Zibane Ngozi and Bayapo Ndori finished behind the United States and Netherlands in a time of 2:57.27.

The United States won the race in a time of 2:55.70 while Netherlands finished in 2:57.18, in the final event of the track athletic events at the Olympic Stadium.

The first seven teams, which also included Belgium, Poland, Jamaica and Italy, all landed in under three minutes. Trinidad and Tobago were in 8th place on 3:00.85.

American team was made of Michael Cherry, Michael Norman, Bryce Deadmon and Rai Benjamin and earned the country’s first men’s track gold medal of the Tokyo Olympics.

Botswana broke their new record that they had set a day before after finishing second in their heat in a time of 2:58.33. That had took .35 of a second off the previous mark set by Nigeria at the Sydney Olympics 21 years ago.

The Saturday’s results saw Botswana record her first medal in Tokyo and first in the event at the Olympics after coming near on a couple of times.
