Leading Algerian domestic club USM Alger are left angry over the sudden disappearance of their prized possession Abderrahmane Meziane.
The 24 year old Algerian international is believed to have departed the shores of the North African country for the United Arab Emirates where he is believed to be in talks with a club over switching.
Nadi Al Emirati, a first division outfit in the United Arab Emirates Arab Gulf League, is the club he’s reported to have gone to.
USM Alger are left seething even more on account they no longer seem to be in control of the situation considering the attacker’s deal with them runs out in June this year.
The current issue means Abderrahmane, last season’s Algerian league player of the year, is technically and within limits allowed to be locked in talks with suitors clamoring for his services.
Consequently, Alger’s board will be left with little chance but accept any offer from here till June –when the player’s contract officially ceases to exist – or run the risk of losing him for free.
Emirati’s interest in the North African playmaker has been longstanding.
The current Algerian domestic league leaders had blatantly slapped US$7m last year as the price tag for the player, according to reports, in the hope to convince the attacker to sign the dotted lines on a renewed deal which potentially translates to more money in the bag for USM for any future sale of the starlet.
On the other hand, Emirati had refused to budge from their initial offer which the Algerian team is balking at taking, insisting the amount is small.
With Meziane now in the UAE and Emirate convinced of landing their transfer target, USM will need to give up the player four months away from the expiry of his contract considering that reporting to FIFA is no longer a suitable option at this moment.
Latest in this saga are emerging reports of USM scouring the market for a replacement striker.
Abderrahmane joined Alger in the summer of 2016 from RC Arbaa, now plying their trade in the second tier of Algerian football.
