BREAKING: Algerian FA Criticized for “Entrenching Corruption”

Algeria’s football governing body has come under a barrage of derides for purportedly entrenching corruption in its domestic league.

Algeria’s football governing body has come under a barrage of derides for purportedly entrenching corruption in its domestic league.

The saga stems from recent strong claims made by JS Kabylie’s controversial chairman Cherif Mellal that he was approached to throw away games by officials of opposition teams who he said are key figures in the FA.

Mellal named current league leaders USM Alger’s chairman Rebouh Haddad, also the FA’s vice-president and Mohktar Amalou, responsible for deploying referees in league games, as individuals who had attempted to bribe him for his club JSK to throw away games.

JSK are strong contenders for the championship’s staked prize, sitting at second-place, five points behind USM.

However, the Algeria FA, dubbed as FAF, swiftly debunked the claims as unfounded.

The statement issued this week left Cherif disenchanted. He had thought the football governing entity would have probed the claims.

Consequently, the FA also came under floodgates of attacks from pundits, who accused it of “entrenching corruption in the North African game.”

In the latest development, Cherif said he wouldn’t mind resorting to FIFA or CAS and provide evidence backing up his claims.
