Erstwhile Africa Cup winners Morocco’s Raja Casablanca have gotten a new manager following the dismissal of Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido.
Appointed two years ago to return The Greens to dominance, Juan’s performances were way short of the outlined target with his recent spurring of the club to the fifth position in the standings, the last straw.
Garrido’s position began to be untenable after he lost 1-0 in the all Raja derby –the league’s biggest and a meeting of nemesis – following that up with an unconvincing draw with mid-table occupants Moghrib Tetouan.
Though he slightly made up for those blips with a 2-1 over FAR Rabat, it wasn’t enough to win over the trigger-happy Raja board’s support who wielded their axe on the 49-year-old former Villareal gaffer.
This was preceded by a behind closed door meeting in which Carlos was reportedly compensated and told to walk away.
However, barely 24 hours to the Spaniard’s dismissal, the 11-time Moroccan domestic Premier League winners have moved on to name a new man to fill the managerial vacuum.
French-born Patrice Carteron has been appointed with immediate effect as the new gaffer to lead The Green Devils for the remainder of the campaign.
Confirming the new coach’s hiring, Raja said on its official handle: “The sports club is officially engaged today with the French Coach Patrice Kar under a contract that extends to the end of the current season.”
“Mr. Patrice Kar has already overseen several French clubs in the first and second tiers prior to the supervision of the financial team and a group of African and Arab clubs, as B. Mạzymby Congolese, Saudi victory club and Al Ahly club recently.”
Well-wishers and the board will be hoping for the best with the arrival of a new manager.
