BREAKING: Sudan Giants Al Hilal Sack Coach Irad Zafouri

Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman have sacked their head coach Irad Zafouri after a shock defeat to Nkana FC in CAF Confederation Cup.

Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman have sacked their head coach Irad Zafouri after a shock defeat to Nkana FC in CAF Confederation Cup.

Al Hilal were beaten 2-1 in their second Group C match played on Wednesday in Kitwe, which led to the club officials’ decision.

Nkana came from behind to grab the win after Waleed Bakhet Hamid had given Al Hilal the lead seven minutes into the match off an assist from Idriss Mbombo, a former Nkana player, who left the Zambian giants last October.

But Freddy Thsimenga hit back for Nkana in the 14th minute, before Captain Walter Bwalya sealed the victory for Nkana 15 minutes before time.

As a result of the defeat, Al Hilal dropped from first to second position on the table behind Zesco United, with only goal difference separating the two sides.

At present, there is no news on who will replace the Tunisian in the Blues hot seat.

Al Hilal president Ahmed Hussein said: “Zaafouri is fired and our new manager will be a foreigner.”

The twenty-seven times champions of Sudan have lost their last four matches in the Sudanese Premier League.

Al Hilal’s next match in the CAF Confederations Cup will be another trip to Zambia where they will face Zesco United at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium
