Umbro has officially announced a partnership deal with Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards as the club’s new kit sponsor.
Images of Ingwe’ new Umbro kit were leaked on social media last week pending a deal reported to be worth millions of shillings.
Umbro confirmed the deal on their official Twitter account. Leopards will be wearing their new Umbro kit in this weekend’s league fixture against KCB.
The partnership will give Umbro all the rights of supplying the club with kits for training and match day, and will also be responsible for producing and selling the club’s replica jerseys.
The Leopards’ technical and management staff will also be supplied with branded apparel, equipment, and luggage with Ingwe products available for fans to purchase.
An insider who is well-versed in this kind of kit deals, especially in the Africa context, said Umbro had definitely hit the jackpot as far as landing Leopards as a partner because of their status as thirteen-time Kenya Premier League champions. In many ways, Donovan Bell, who is Umbro’s top man in South Africa, reaffirmed this.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] “We feel AFC Leopards is the perfect club to partner with for our first deal in Kenya. It goes without saying that we are excited to be associated with a club that has had so much success on the pitch.” [/perfectpullquote]
“We hope the partnership will be the start of the club’s resurgence to the top of Kenyan football,” Donovan Bell explained.
The Umbro deal sees Leopards join other top global football household names such as Everton FC, West Ham United FC, AFC Bournemouth and Huddersfield Town FC of the English Premier League.
Cape Town City FC (South African Premier Soccer League); Township Rollers FC (Botswana Premier League); Zesco United FC (Zambian Premier League); Accra Hearts of Oak (Ghana Premier League) are other famous sides spotting the Umbro gear.
