Brighton & Hove Albion Sign On-Form Ghanaian Forward Raphael Dwamena

Newly promoted Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion has reached an agreement with Swiss outfit FC Zurich for the permanent transfer of on-form Ghanaian forward Raphael Dwamena.

After weeks of speculation, Brighton officially announced the news on its social media platforms confirming the deal, but ‘the player is still subject to a work permit and international clearance’.

“The 21-year-old striker has also agreed to personal terms with the club and is now awaiting clearance to travel to the UK for his medical,” the statement added.

Dwamena joined Zurich from second-tier side Lustenau in January for just £250,000, but the Swiss outfit has been holding out for a significant seven-figure fee. Brighton had earlier made a £8m bid which was rejected with reports saying FC Zurich wanted £13.7m.

His 30 goals in 38 appearances in the Austrian championship helped Lustenau to dominate the lower league last season earning a promotion spot back to the Austrian Super League and a national team call-up.

He didn’t look out of place after moving to Swiss champions Zurich and quickly turned into a fan favorite after scoring a brace against arch rivals, Grasshoppers.

The Seagulls who have lost both of their opening Premier League games, are yet to score a goal this season and are in dire need of a forward if they are to stay in the top flight this season.

It looks like they’ve found the right man at a price after bagging an impressive 14 goals that included a recent hat-trick against minnows FC Chippis in the Swiss Cup.

On the international scene, Dwamena has two goals for the senior national team with both against Ethiopia on his debut in June.
