Newly appointed Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has picked Cedomir Janevski as one of the coaches who will work with him after he was introduced to the media on Wednesday.
The former Cameroon coach, who was appointed on a five-year contract to replace Molefi Ntseki, has already forwarded the name of his second assistant to the South Africa Football Association (SAFA).
Broos confirmed he had settled for experienced Janevski as his first assistant, who currently works as the head coach for Cyprus side Olympiakos Nicosia.
“I will have a local assistant coach, but I can’t tell you who that is for now. But my other assistant is Cedomir Janevski – a close friend of mine who is in Cyprus at the moment and will join me here after the season has ended,” the 69-year-old told journalists.
“The committee has approved and we won’t have a problem working together because I have known him for a very long time and he has coached in Belgium.”
Speaking about his plans for his new role as Bafana coach, Broos pleaded with football fans to be patient with what he wants to do and achieve with the team.
He added that qualification for 2022 FIFA World Cup should not be the main priority but the emphasis should be on 2023 AFCON going forward.
He mentioned though that he would give it his best shot to still qualify for Qatar. South Africa are in Group G, together with Ghana, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe.
