A Burkinabe footballer has died under mysterious circumstances that some suspect to be a case of suicide.
Witnesses suspect Franck Thomas Bado, who is the captain of Union Sportive Des Forces (USFA) captain, swallowed a poisonous substance. His body discovered on Saturday morning at his apartment in Ouagadougou without physical injuries.
Sources close to the deceased revealed that Bado had no health conditions and was in jovial spirit as usual on Friday evening.
Police officers who arrived at the scene immediately got in touch with officials from the Ministry of Health and the house was fumigated.
A doctor also examined the body but said a comprehensive report would be given once the cause of death has been ascertained.
Despite instructions from police to observe social distancing due to Coronavirus, neighbors assembled as they craned their necks to catch a glimpse of the body.
Some sources, however, reported that the 27-year-old left behind some documents which he had been authoring since April 15.
Bado’s former club Union Sportive de Ouagadougou stated they were mourning following the loss of their former player, describing his death as a great loss to the Burkina Faso football.
“We are shocked to learn the passing of our former central defender Franck Bado,” the club said in a statement.
“The whole management team of the Reds and Whites expresses their condolences to the bereaved family, friends and the football fraternity. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
