Burkina Faso Sack Coach Kamou Malo

The Burkina Faso Football Federation (FBF) says it won’t be renewing national team coach Kamou Malo’s contract when it expires at the end of February and its searching for a replacement to lead the Stallions in qualifying for the next year’s Nations Cup.

FBF said its executive decided on Saturday to let Malo go despite guiding the Stallion to the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations this month.

Malo, who was appointed as Burkina Faso coach in August 2019, had his two-and-half contract set to expire on February 28.

The 59-year-old gaffer had replaced Paulo Duarte whose contract expires at the end of July 2019.

Malo was set to be sacked in last Saturday’s National Executive Committee meeting, but it was agreed that he needs to meet with FBF before his future can be made public.

Despite media reports that FBF already has a new coach in Gernot Rohr, sources in the federation said that the search for Malo’s successor will begin immediately.

The new coach will be tasked in preparing the Stallions to face world football’s top-ranked team Belgium in an international friendly on March 29 in Brussels.

The performance of Burkina Faso during the 2021 African Cup of Nations would have prompted the leaders of Belgian FA  to decide to gauge themselves against the West African.
