Vital’O moved to from their 2-0 heartbreak at the hands of Atletico Olympic last week to hold high flying Le Messager Ngozi to a goalless draw on Friday at St. Intwari Stadium, Bujumbura.
The 20-time league champions went into the match placed seventh on the league table and they needed three points to better their position.
Le Messager were on top of the table but the goalless stalemate has derailed their chances of extending their lead against second-placed Musongati.
All Le Messager’s players were available for selection, save for suspended Bizoza John Bosco but they were left frustrated by a stubborn Vital’O in a game of missed chances.
The home side started asserting their dominance after 10 minutes, with Messager being quite content to let the Altecos have the ball, while they attacked on the counter with Muselemu, Congera and Muderi.
Vital’O went close in the 38th minute when Noyonizeye Fred’s free-kick from 25-yards out sailed just wide of the Radjabu’s upright.
The visitors should have gone ahead in the 89th minute when Allan Kiiza’s long ball found Arthur Nibikor, who placed his effort wide of the upright with Ndahishimiye to beat.
In another match, Kayanza United well held to 1-1 stalemate by Flambeau du Centre in a match played at St. Umuco Stadium in Muyinga.
Athletic Olympic were the biggest winners on the day with a 3-1 win over Les Lirress in a match played at St.Itwari Stadium.
