BYC Collect L$1.35M as Liberia’s Double Champions

Barrack Young Controllers bagged Liberian dollars 1.35 million (US$8,653) as double champions of the 2018 Liberia Football Association league season after winning both championship and FA Cup.

Liberia’s giant football club Barrack Young Controllers have bagged home Liberian dollars 1.35 million (US$8,653) as double champions of the 2018 Liberia Football Association league season after winning both championship and FA Cup.

A day after defeating LPRC Oilers to win the championship and a cash prize of L$750,000, the ‘Go Blue Boys’ thrashed outgoing double champions LISCR FC 4-0 yesterday in the FA Cup final at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium to collect additional L$600,000.

Runners up LISCR FC received a cash prize of L$375,000.

Trokon Myers was the chief destroyer against his former club LISCR FC at Antoinette Tubman Stadium, scoring a goal in each half to take his goal tally for the season to 13 in all competitions.

David Tweh slotted home the opener in the 27th minute with a stunning right foot strike, before striker Myers doubled BYC lead in 37 minutes to send the newly crowned champions for the halftime break with a 2-0 lead.

Prior to the half time break, LISCR FC were reduced to ten men after striker Sam Kollie was red carded for a challenge on midfielder John Jersey.

LISCR’s Varney Sando had an opportunity to to reduce the goal deficit before the break. The forward managed to get his foot on a cross delivered from a Sekou Sheriff’s set piece, but his shot was saved by the crossbar.

After the break, LISCR Coach Tapha Manneh responded to the red card and two goals deficit by introducing more attackers.

Nevertheless, BYC maintained their dominance in every department and scored additional two goals in the second half through Myers and Mustapha Lomell who netted a goal in less than five minutes after he was introduced.

It was a disappointing moment for outgoing title holders, conceding four goals in the final, their worst performance of the 2018 league season.

Despite the loss, LISCR will represent Liberia at the 2018/2019 CAF Confederation Cup as finalists of the FA Cup after BYC had already been crowned league champions on Wednesday, October 17, at the ATS.

BYC on the other hand will represent Liberia at the continent’s biggest club competition, the CAF Champions League. They will be making their fourth appearance in the competition and are yet to reach the group stage.
