A brace from Meddie Kagere helped Simba to a 3-0 win over JS Saoura in a CAF Champions League Group D clash on Saturday evening in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Emmanuel Okwi scored the other goal for the Wekundu wa Msimbazi as 35,000 fans came out to the National Stadium to see the East African giants play against the Algerian side.
The visitors started the game on a high note and Ziri Hammar had the first sight of goal but put his effort wide of the post.
The first real chance for Simba fell for Pascal Wawa in the 22nd minute, but the defender’s header went across the face of Khaled Boukacems goal.
John Bocco was presented with a good chance moments later, but the attacker fired his attempted volley wide from inside the box.
Saoura had half chances later, but Hamza Zaidi’s shot was saved by Aisha Manula while Fateh Talah’s scrambled effort was cleared off the line by the impressive Murshid Juuko.
The Wekundu wa Msimbazi took the lead after 44th minutes as Emanuel Okwi turned Ibrahim Bakakchi upside down before unleashing a right footed bullet.
The second goal came six minutes after the restart as Medie Kagere squared the ball for Talah, who showed composure to curl the ball in at the near post from 14-yards.
Kagere made it 3-0 on the hour mark with a goal of real class as he drifted in from the left and fired in an unstoppable shot across the body of Boukacem; his fourth goal in the tournament.
There never appeared to be a way back for an off-form Saoura , although Naceredine Koualed wasted a great chance with 67 minutes gone when he failed to beat Manula when clear through on goal.
The game lost its spark as both coaches made changes to their teams, but Simba enjoyed the ball possession.
Saoura created two great opportunities in quick succession in the 80th minute, but Simba did well to stop Koulkheir from taking a shot, before Zaidi’s attempted bicycle-kick sailed high and wide.
Substitute Farhi teed up Hammar with just over five minutes to go, but the midfielder was denied by Aishi Manula.
The Tanzania giants held on their healthy lead to register a convincing 3-0 win over Saoura.
