TP Mazembe on Friday evening defeated Al Hilal Omdurman 2-1 in the final group B match of the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League played in Lubumbashi.
Joel Beya and Isaac Tshibangu scored in both halves to ensure Mazembe ended the qualifiers on a high note after missing out on a quarter-final slot during their 2-0 defeat to CR Belouizdad last week.
Eid Mugadam found the back of the net for Al Hilal on second minute which made the Blue Waves have a belief of making it to the last eight of the competition.
Abdalla Ahmed came close to giving Al Hilal the second in the 10th minutes after cutting inside from the right wing but his curling effort was smothered by Sylvain Gbouhou.
However, the Ravens drew level on 18 minutes before pressure made Hilal defender Mohamed Ouatara had the ball in his own net.
Nasr Edin broke away on a counter-attack for the hosts with ten minutes left of the first stanza and charged his way on the left side of the box but his effort across goal was parried away by Gbouhou.
Mazembe continued to pressurize Al Hilal coming from the break as Etieene Mayombo had a chance to break the deadlock in the 62nd after attacking a cross with a diving header inside the six-yard box but the ball came off his upper body and sailed wide.
Nazir Hamid had a great chance to give the lead with 18 minutes left after going through on goal at the near post just after coming on but his thumping effort hit the side-netting.
Pamphile Mihayo’s men sealed the win on the 76 minutes when Isaac Tshibangu headed home inside the box.
TP Mazembe finished third in Group B with five points as group leaders Mamelodi Sundowns fell to second-placed Belouizdad 2-0.
