CAF Inter-clubs Competitions Draw Set

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will conduct the draws for its two inter-club competitions, the Champions League and Confederations Cup, on Saturday, November 3.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will conduct the draws for its two inter-club competitions, the Champions League and Confederations Cup, on Saturday, November 3.

Over 100 clubs from the 53 national associations affiliated to the continental football governing body will be involved in the draw for the two club championships due to commence on November 27.

Twelve top-ranked nations in terms of club continental performances will get four entries, two in Champions and the other two the Confederations Cup, in a draw set to be conducted in Rabat, the capital city of Morocco.

“The draw for the preliminary rounds of the 2018/19 CAF Interclubs will be held on Saturday in Rabat, Morocco during the meeting of the Ad hoc Committee of the CAF Interclubs,” CAF tweeted on Thursday.

Unlike in the past, this season will adopt a transitional calendar which allows the CAF club competitions to switch from the February-November schedule to August-May following the CAF Executive Committee decision in July last year.

The upcoming season will start in the first weekend of December and end in May 2019, just before the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Champions League matches are reserved for Fridays and Saturdays only, while midweek games may only be scheduled on a Tuesday.

In contrast, Confederation Cup games can only be played on a Sunday and Wednesday to ensure there is no overlap between the two competitions.

Meanwhile, the 2017/18 final will take place on Saturday, 23 November 2018 involving Congo’s AS Vita Club and Raja Casablanca of Morocco.
