CAF Name New Dates For Champions League Semi-Final, Final

The African Champions League semi-final second leg between Zamalek and Raja Casablanca will be played on November 4, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said on Friday.

The African Champions League semi-final second leg between Zamalek and Raja Casablanca will be played on November 4, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said on Friday.

The clash was originally scheduled for Saturday 24 October before being pushed further to November 1 after several members of Moroccan side tested positive for Covid-19.

The affected Raja officials and players have since been placed under quarantine by Moroccan health authorities before being given permission to travel to Cairo for the second leg.

Zamalek secured a 1-0 win over the 2019/20 Botola champions in the first leg to hold a crucial away goal advantage ahead of the return leg in Cairo.

The decision to push the semi-final date has also forced organizers to set another date for the final which was initially set for November 6.

The title decider will now be played on November 27 and will be staged at the 87,000-capacity Borg el Arab Stadium on the outskirts of Egyptian Mediterranean city Alexandria.

The eight-time winners Ahly secured their place in the final after beating Morocco’s Wydad 5-1 on aggregate earlier this month.

The mini-tournament to decide the 2020 African Champions League winners was originally set for last May.

Following the spike of coronavirus, organizers rescheduled it for September, then put back again to October/November before the Raja positive cases caused further disruption.
