The Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Ahmad Ahmad is doing well in hospital after his coronavirus diagnosis.

The 60 year old administrator was revealed to have contacted coronavirus last week and has since been hospitalized at a Cairo hospital.

He was to spend five days in hospital after his doctors advised him not to self-isolate at his hotel moments after his arrival from Morocco where he had gone to watch the finals of African Confederations Cup.

CAF Communications Director Alex Siewe says Ahmad is on the road to recovery after doctors advised him to stay for ‘up to 14 days’.

“Patients isolate better in hospital,” Siewe told BBC Sport Africa last week.

Latest reports from the Egyptian capital indicate that the football boss was not being given extra oxygen for now and had been fever-free for 24 hours.

Ahmad took charge of CAF in 2017 and at the present is the sole candidate who has submitted his candidacy for the next March elections.

However, Ahmad is facing a ban from football after FIFA investigators found out that the Malagasy official has breached “various codes of conduct”.

The alleged breaches relate to his apparent involvement in CAF’s controversial deal with Tactical Steel, which also saw him being investigated by French anti-corruption authorities last year.
