Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe has praised Morocco for its historical achievement in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup.
Morocco, who have only won the African Cup of Nations once, reached the semifinal of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and made history as first African Nation to reach the last four.
Motsepe praised the performance of the North African nation and insisted the target for the continent is now to go one better in the future.
“We are particularly proud of Morocco’s historic qualification to the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. It is the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup that an African Nation has qualified for the semi-finals,” Motsepe said on Wednesday.
“I would like to express our deep gratitude to the players (Les Lions de l’Atlas), the technical team, the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football under the outstanding leadership of President Fouzi Lekjaa, the people of Morocco and His Royal Highness King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him.
“Our objective of ensuring that an African Nation wins the FIFA World Cup is alive and within reach.”
Morocco had a historical run in the 2022 World Cup where they finished fourth to become the best one in the history of African and Arab participation in the competition.
Apart from Morocco, Africa was also represented by Senegal, Cameroon, Tunisia, and Ghana, who all showed impressive performances at the global showpiece.
