The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed its preliminary list of nominees for the 2022 African men’s Player of the Year awards.
30 names have been revealed for the men’s category, with eight of the nominees playing in the English Premier League.
Last edition’s winner, Senegal forward Sadio Mane, is joined by his two Liverpool team-mates Mo Salah of Egypt and Guinea international Naby Keita.
Al Ahly’S quartet of Ali Maaloul, Mohamed Abdelmonem, Mohamed El-Shenawy, Aliou Dieng and Wydad Casablanca’s Yahya Jabrane are the only men in the list who play their football in Africa.
Comoros, who qualified for an Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in their history, are represented by Youssouf M’Changama.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals are also reflected on the 10-man list for Coach of the Year with Tom Saintfiet nominated after he secured the country a place in the finals for the first time in their history.
The continental awards will be making a return since 2019 when Senegal forward Sadio Mane and Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala scooped the African Player of the Year awards for men and women, respectively.
The Awards gala s been scheduled to be held on July 21, 2022 in Morocco where the upcoming Africa Women’s Cup of Nations finals that are set to take place between July 2 and July 23.
