CAF Slaps TP Mazembe, Raja Casablanca With Fines

TP Mazembe and Raja Casablanca have been fined USD 10,000 each by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following unsporting behaviour by their supporters.

TP Mazembe and Raja Casablanca have been fined USD 10,000 each by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following unsporting behaviour by their supporters and players during their Africa Champions League quarter-final, second leg match.

Raja Casablanca players were accused of misconduct during their Africa Champions League quarter-final second leg game away on March 7.

CAF disciplinary board ruled that Raja players’ behaviour led to the incitement of the TP Mazembe spectators which resulted to a shuffle prior to the start of the game.

This was after listening to presentations made by Raja’s general secretary Anis Mahmoud and club defender Iliass Hadad.

“The Disciplinary Board decided to impose upon Raja Casablanca a fine of 10,000 USD for the unfortunate behaviour of their players which resulted in the incitement of the TP Mazembe spectators,” read the decisions.

In the preliminary decision made in March, the disciplinary board suspended Haddad indefinitely for punching a fan during the confrontation that was captured on camera.

The suspension has now been lifted with the board saying it has cautioned Haddad for his unsporting behaviour.

“The board decided to lift the provisional suspension on Iliass Haddad, and caution him for his unsporting behavior,” the decision reads in part.

TP Mazembe has been found guilty for failure to control their fans after they were captured on camera engaged in a confrontation with a group of Raja player during the match in question.

The hosts won the ill-fated match 1-0 but bowed out on 2-1 aggregate after losing 2-0 in Casablanca in the first leg.
