Cameroon Coach Unveils 28-man Squad For World Cup Qualifiers

Cameroon national team head coach Antonio Conceicao Oliveira has unveiled his squad for next month’s 2022 World Cup Group D qualifiers against Malawi and Ivory Coast.

Bayern Munich’s Choupo-Moting, Lyon forward Toko Ekambi and Abubakar Vincent are some of the key stars named in the 28-man squad.

Choupo-Moting and Abubakar are the two most experienced players in the squad having featured for Indomitable Lion in team’s last appearance at the World Cup in Brazil 2014.

The Portuguese tactician has also included Cristian Bassogog, Bahoken Stephane, Zambo Anguissa and Fai Colins in the squad.

However there is no room for experience goalkeeping trio of Fabrice Ondoa, Andre Onana, Idris Carlos Kameni nor Dynamo Moscow forward Clinton Njie.

Greece-based custodian Devis Epassy and Rennes midfielder Lea Siliki have received their first call up for the two group opening matches in September.

The Indomitable Lions will face Malawi on September 3 in Olembe before facing Ivory Coast four days later in Abidjan.

Cameroon are the most successful African team at the World Cup, qualifying for the tournament seven times and in Italy in 1990 they became the first team from the continent to reach the quarter-finals.

Midfielders: Djoum Anaud, Kunde Malong, Zambo Anguissa, Oum Gouet Samuel, Hongla Martin, Lea Siliki James,Neyou Yvan, Lambert Gueme Arania, Aboubakar Vincent

Forwards: John Mary, Ganago Ignatius, Bassogog Christian, Choupo-Moting, Bahoken Stephane, Toko-Ekambi Karl, Ngamaleu Moumi
