The Cameroon Football Association (FECAFOOT) has approved September 26 for the start of 2020-21 league season.
There are two new entrants -Astres de Douala and Yafoot- after the duo secured promotion to the elite division.
The new season will accommodate 20 teams instead of 18 as the federation prepares to have a strong side in the next year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) that will be staged in the country.
However, FECAFOOT has insisted that the only factor that may affect football resumption plans is the course of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
“FECAFOOT plans for resumption of the league to be on 26th September to be precise unless the current situation worsens,” said the federation president Seidou Mbombo Njoya.
PWD Bamenda is the defending champions after they were declared champions following the cancellation of the league due to coronavirus pandemic.
Bamenda were leading Coton Sport by a single point in March when the championship was halted with six rounds still to complete.
Currently, the transfer window is open for teams to sign players and it is expected to be closed few weeks before the start of the new season.
Cameroon confirmed its first coronavirus case in March, and by July 27, the country had 18,042 cases, 395 deaths and 15,320 recoveries, according to the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
