Cameroon Midfielder Ends Contract With Sparta Prague

Cameroon midfielder Georges Mandjeck will not be Sparta Prague’s player next season after terminating the three-year-contract with the side on mutual grounds

Cameroon midfielder Georges Mandjeck will not be Sparta Prague’s player next season after terminating the three-year-contract with the side on mutual grounds

The midfielder, who was on loan to Israel top division side Maccabi Haifa, is reported to have already secured a release letter and will be seeking for greener pastures next season.

This is after a disagreement on the terms of the contract as Prague wanted to remain with the player for two more years.

The Czech Republic outfit made a turnaround regarding the payment structure that was agreed upon, when the player joined in July 2017.

The 31-year-old was last year involved in another tussle with Prague, where he reported the club to FIFA owing to contractual irregularities.

Mandjeck stated that he was not happy with the contractual formula with the club as it sat as a service provider, through self-employment contracts, rather than standard employee contract.

The formula works in that each month, a player will send an invoice to the club, and the club will pay them, rather than through a conventional wage structure.

Mandjeck argued that it is illegal from European Union law perspective as it incurs an additional cost to the player with regards to taxation.

Mandjeck previously played for Stuttgart and Kaiserslautern in Germany, and for French clubs Rennes and Auxerre.

The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations winner with 50 caps for the indomitable Lions Cameroon is now linked with a move back to France where he is expected to join an unnamed Ligue 2 outfit.
