Cape Town City centre-back, Giannis Potouridis, has extended his contract with the Citizens until June 2022.
The Greek international was rumored to be a transfer target of Eric Tinkler’ transformation at Pietermaritzburg, but the Maritzburg United boss needs to look for another De Reuck replacement.
Potouridis kept his place under Jan Olde Riekenrik and is part of their squad that is determined to break into the top eight when the South Africa Premier Soccer League resumes.
Cape Town City confirmed the 28-year-old left-footed player will have two more years’ stay at the club, which he joined at the beginning of the season.
“The club is delighted to confirm that we have taken up the option to extend the contract of Greek central defender Giannis Potouridis until June 2022,” the Citizens tweeted.
Potouridis joined Cape Town City from Russian Super League outfit OFI Crete and has so far made eight appearances for the club.
The defender began his career with top Greek side Olympiakos and featured in the UEFA Champions League for them in the 2011/12 campaign.
But he was never a regular and later joined Platanias‚ Panthrakikos and Larissa in the Greek league‚ having also had a spell with Italian Serie B side Novara and Polish second-tier side Miedź Legnica.
Cape Town City’s defensive record in the league is easily the worst in the division‚ and they are hoping to sign two or three defenders this summer.
