Cape Verde will lock horns with Cameroon in their final 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group A match on Monday.
The clash is set for Paul Mbiya Stadium in Olembe, kick-off is at 16h00 GMT.
The Blue Sharks won their opening game of the tournament 1-0 against Ethiopia before registering a 1-0 loss to 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finalists Burkina Faso.
Now Cape Verde need a victory against Cameroon in order to secure their place in the knockout phase.
And with arguably their biggest test still to come, head coach Pedro Leitão Brito will be hoping that his team can finally find their rhythm with pressure mounting on the Spaniard.
“We have to forget Burkina Faso defeat and turn to the future and prepare for our match against Cameroon in the best possible conditions. Burkina have good players. They are one of the best African teams,” the Cape Verde coach said.
Meanwhile, Cameroon impressively defeated Ethiopia 4-1 on Thursday and therefore secured not only a spot in the last 16, but also first place in Group A.
This gives coach António “Toni” Conceiçao i the luxury of resting key players such as Vincent Aboubakar and Karl Toko-Ekambi among others to ensure they are fit and fresh for a last 16 clash against a third-placed team from one of Groups C, D or E next Monday.
In head-to-head stats, Cape Verde and Cameroon have met in three previous matches. The Indomitable Lions have claimed two wins, while one game has been drawn.
